The Impact of War: A Poetry Collection

In 2024, I became very tired of the Russia vs Ukraine situation. I felt the need to take action. Of course, I couldn’t do much, so I wrote something. It’s not my proudest creation, but I got it done.

I published a book of poems about war and it’s negative impact. Here’s one of the poems:

The Battle Within: Trenches of the Soul

In the trenches, a world of mud and blood,
Where young men fought with courage and might,
A war to end all wars, they believed,
In the darkness, they sought a ray of light.

The sound of guns, the whizzing of shells,
Filled the air with terror and fright.
In the trenches, they braved the storms of steel,
Their hearts steadfast, they would not yield.

Mud-caked uniforms, a second skin,
As they trudged through the quagmire’s hold,
With heavy packs and weary limbs,
Their endurance, a story untold.

The trenches, a maze of mud and wire,
A network of fear and desperation,
Where men lived, fought, and sometimes died,
Their sacrifice, a nation’s salvation.

With rats as companions, uninvited guests,
And lice that crawled, an ever-present pest,
They endured the filth, the stench, the cold,
Their bodies battered, their spirits never sold.

In the trenches, a bond forged in fire,
A brotherhood, strong and true,
They shared their fears, their hopes, their dreams,
A family, in a world they never knew.

Through shell-scarred landscapes, they marched on,
Their eyes fixed on a distant light,
In letters home, they spoke of courage,
Their words, a beacon in the night.

The trenches, a crucible of human spirit,
Where courage and resilience prevailed,
In the face of death, they found their strength,
Their stories, a legacy that sailed.

They wrote their names in history’s pages,
With acts of valour, large and small,
Their sacrifices, a debt we can never repay,
We remember them, and stand tall.

In fields of green, where poppies dance,
A solemn reminder of their sacrifice,
The trenches, a memorial to their courage,
A place where heroes found their price.

We walk in their footsteps, humbled and grateful,
For the freedom they fought to secure,
Their legacy, a world rebuilt from ashes,
Their bravery, a beacon ever-enduring.

The trenches, a testament to their might,
Where young men became heroes in sight,
Their stories, forever etched in time,
A reminder of the horrors, and the triumph of light.

If you’re also sick with all the wars happening around the world, you might find solace in the other poems. The book The Cartographers of Chaos could be what you need right now. Links below.
