Harnessing Inner Strength: Overcoming Comfort Zones
All the weapons in the world can do shit if we don’t have the power to handle them. It’s like having a top car and a driving license, but no gas. We need some gas inside us so we need to find some proper ways to create it (because we can’t just buy gas for the soul). In the last chapter, we had a glance view over some parts of our inner universe and this might have helped to reach a better selfunderstanding.
If now we know what we lack and what we want, it’s time to do something about it. In my opinion, this gas can be seen as motivation or courage (in the lack of motivation). Mel Robbins uses to say that motivation is garbage because it comes and goes. I don’t know if that is the case, but I do know that sometimes we need some strong kick to move forward. It’s 4:49 AM right now and I must say that in this morning, I had a huge fight with my inside dragons. They all wanted to sleep in whilst I wanted to get up and work. They wanted to sleep while I need to work. It’s not a want anymore. I have no choice. I need to finish this.
“Ok, so if motivation is garbage, what else can we do to start moving?” Well, having a strong why is crucial here. I believe we need to know the purpose of what we do. There are tons of motivational speakers and even more motivational things out there. Because of this, I wouldn’t say that motivation is garbage. It can indeed come and go, but only the intensity of it.
The motivation itself doesn’t go away if it’s the right one. In those moments, our comfort zone is stronger than our motivation. Why? Because there are multiple factors that can weaken us, but too few that can make us strong. Even though there are tons of motivation out there, not everything can apply to us, whilst many things we’re surrounded with can draw us down.
One of the things I do when I don’t feel like doing something, is to tell myself the following: “If you want to do something in life, you need to get out of your comfort zone.” This is nice kick in the butt when I tend to hesitate before doing something that makes me feel uncomfortable. Even when it’s about making a simple phone call that puts me in a certain situation. But of course, this is not enough. We need to know what that something is so we can figure out where we’re heading to.
In this passage from my book Fighting The Inside Dragons (excluding the image), I discuss the importance of pushing ourselves. This is necessary to accomplish more. No one else will come to do it for us. If you want to read more, grab the book. Links below.
Yes! I want to be comfortable but at the same time, not too much so!
